Descension & Transition

A strong current sweeps up the silt at the bottom of a lake. Peeling off the top layer, its power digs deeper. Into a section that has not been touched in years.

Suddenly, what was clear and normal is now completely murky. We are scared. The unseeable future consumes the mind with anxiety. We can’t see through it and if you make any sudden movements, it will only disturb the silt more and cloudier it will get.

The only option is to sit in stillness and…

Wait

 ‘But where will things settle?’

Wait

‘I’m losing time.’

Wait

‘I need to be going somewhere!’

Wait

We are used to following a path of some kind, of moving in a direction. Now that is all changed. Our minds’ thoughts grow louder in the calm, begging us to pay attention. We struggle to let them pass without notice.

The particulate reaches the surface and starts to descend.

We begin to see through the murky brown water. Not far, but enough to know where we don’t want to go. The voices soften and we observe in amazement, the beauty of the particles descending back down in the water column. Catching rays of sun and glinting colors.

They fall and we are held in pristine calm. Captive to the present. Ultimate focus being on the descension. In this settling, we will have a new foundation. From which to build the next phase of life.

Our eyes watch the last particle fall to the lake bottom. We turn our gaze upwards and realize the water is now clear. A piece of water glows in sunlight.

That is where we will go.
